Product Life Cycle Analysis (LCA): a basic workshop with practical examples

Description of the training:

Participants will initially be introduced to the concept of Life Cycle Analysis (LCA).LCA is a methodology based on the ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 standards for analysing the environmental impacts of a product or process at all stages of its life cycle. Participants will learn about the key steps and phases of LCA and the tools available for LCA.
A practical example will be used to show how an LCA is carried out and how the results can be used.

Competences acquired:

  • Understanding the principles of the LCA methodology
  • Understanding the different types of LCA in terms of scope and content
  • Insights into where LCA is used
  • Familiarisation with the LCA tools available and their advantages and limitations
  • Insights into the production of LCAs and the databases used for this purpose

Lecturer: Dr Jelena Topić Božič, Research Associate at the Rudolfovo Public Research Institute – Science and Technology Centre Novo mesto.

Jelena Topić Božič, PhD, is a researcher at the Rudolf – Science and Technology Centre Novo mesto, where she works on LCA analyses. She is also an assistant professor at the Faculty of Industrial Engineering. She has attended several training courses in LCA, including training in the use of LCA SimaPro and openLCA software. She has also obtained the MIT Professional certificate in LCA.

The training will take place on 19/09/2024 and will last 4 school hours (9:00 – 13:00).

It will take place in a hybrid format via Zoom and in a lecture room at the Faculty of Information Studies in Novo mesto, Ljubljanska cesta 31a, 8000 Novo mesto.
