Digital twins

Unlike a digital twin, which focuses on one specific object, virtual twins allow you to visualise, model and simulate the whole environment. They enable sustainable business innovation throughout the product lifecycle. The virtual twin experience starts with the creation of a 3D model representing the shape, dimensions and properties of a physical product or system. Simulations are run on this virtual model to investigate how the product will behave when assembled, used or exposed to a series of events. The number of tests is limited only by the imagination. Testing helps to optimise and validate the design, materials and manufacturing processes – and because it is all done virtually, the whole life cycle is more sustainable. As the physical product progresses through its life cycle, so does the virtual twin. New data sources such as operational data from sensors, performance measurements and maintenance records are added. Combined with the original requirements, design decisions and simulation results, the virtual twin has its own life cycle: the twin of the product “as built” and “as used”. The virtual twin is a digital replica of the product itself and its history and evolution.

The focus of the training is on understanding the visualisation, modelling and simulation of the entire product development and manufacturing process.
